What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit websites. SEO Assassin uses cookies and similar technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage) to enhance your experience and maintain functionality.

How We Use Cookies and Local Storage

Our platform uses the following types of storage:

Essential Functionality

  • Authentication: Session management and access control
  • Client Context: Stores business details (name, city, URL, service) to prefill forms across tools
  • Theme Preferences: Remembers your light/dark mode selection
  • Last Visited Tool: Tracks which tool you used last for "Continue where you left off" feature

Data Storage

  • Audit History: Local fallback storage for audit records when Firestore is unavailable
  • Session Restore: Temporary storage of audit results when reopening historical reports
  • Client Prefill: Temporarily stores business info when rerunning audits from history

Performance

  • Cache Management: Firestore caching to reduce API costs and improve speed
  • Next.js Build Cache: Framework-level caching for optimal performance

Storage Keys We Use

localStorage:

  • seo-assassin-theme - Theme preference (light/dark)
  • seo-assassin-last-tool - Last visited dashboard tool
  • seo_assassin_audit_history - Offline audit history backup
  • seo_assassin_client - Persisted client context data

sessionStorage:

  • vortex_restore - Reopened Digital Vortex audit data
  • insights_restore - Reopened Visibility Vortex analysis data
  • client_prefill - Client details for rerunning audits

Third-Party Cookies

Our platform integrates with third-party services that may set their own cookies:

  • Firebase/Firestore: Authentication and database services
  • Google APIs: PageSpeed Insights and other Google services
  • DataForSEO: SEO data and directory listing information

These third parties have their own cookie policies which we encourage you to review.

Managing Cookies and Storage

You can control and manage cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Options include:

  • Blocking all cookies and local storage
  • Accepting only first-party cookies
  • Clearing cookies and storage data
  • Receiving notifications when cookies are set

Note: Disabling cookies or clearing local storage may impact the functionality of SEO Assassin, particularly:

  • You will need to re-enter client details each time
  • Theme preferences won't be remembered
  • Audit history fallback won't work offline
  • Session restore functionality will be disabled

Data Retention

Local storage data persists until you manually clear it or delete it through the platform. Session storage is automatically cleared when you close your browser tab. Audit history in localStorage is limited to the last 100 entries.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when changes were made.
